Lusamerica’s Trucks Switch to Renewable Diesel in California

This year marks a major step forward in how Lusamerica moves seafood throughout California. Our delivery fleet has officially switched to RD99 Renewable Diesel—a clean-burning, 99% synthetic fuel made from a mix of renewable feedstocks, including used cooking oil, agricultural byproducts, and virgin plant oils grown specifically for renewable fuel production. Chemically similar to traditional diesel but far cleaner, RD99 can cut greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% while reducing particulate pollution that affects the air we all breathe. For our customers, nothing changes about the reliability of our deliveries—but for our environment and communities, this shift makes a meaningful difference.

What Are Feedstocks?

Feedstocks are the raw materials used to make a fuel or product. In the case of RD99 Renewable Diesel, feedstocks can include:

  • Used cooking oil
  • Agricultural byproducts and waste fats
  • Virgin vegetable oils from crops grown specifically for renewable fuel production

These materials are processed and refined into a clean-burning diesel alternative. The type and source of feedstocks shape the fuel’s sustainability profile, carbon intensity, and overall environmental impact.

Transitioning to renewable diesel is more than a fuel change; it’s a climate milestone for Lusamerica. It reflects our commitment to ensure that the seafood we bring from ocean to plate is supported by responsible practices at every stage—including the trucks that carry it. By embracing RD99, we’re reducing our reliance on fossil fuels, lowering emissions in neighborhoods across California, and taking another step toward a cleaner, more sustainable supply chain. It’s one more way we’re working to protect the oceans we depend on and the communities we serve.
